Brief Facts: Guyana was once acquired by the UK in 1814 but became independent in 1966 and a republic within the UK Commonwealth in 1970. Flag Information: Guyana's flag is known as the "Golden Arrow" because of the arrowhead that flies across the green field. Guyana's National Flag has five colors. Green is for the agricultural and forested nature of Guyana, white stands for the rivers and the water, the gold represents the country's mineral wealth, the black portrays the endurance of the Guyanese people and the red represents the zeal and dynamic nature of Guyana.
