The Antigua and Barbuda flag was adopted on February 27, 1967, and was designed by nationally acclaimed artist and sculptor, Sir Reginald Samuel. The sun symbolizes the dawning of a new era, black is for the African ancestry, the blue symbolizes hope, and red represents the energy of the people.

The additional colors of yellow, blue, and white from the sun down also represents the Caribbean sea and sand. The V shape is the symbol of victory.
